Kortrijk, 19 th October 2007 - With Turkish business on the rise, Temsa, a Turkish manufacturer has been awarded ‘Manufacturer of the Year 2008’ at Busworld Kortrijk, the biggest international fair in the bus and coach business. Temsa is already 2 nd biggest independent bus manufacturer in its own segments in Europe.

The fair that is currently being held in Kortrijk, Belgium, opened its doors to the public today and hosts a series of press conferences with all key players in the market.

In the past decade, Turkey has become a hub for bus and car manufacturing. While most major manufacturers have come to Turkey to produce vehicles, Turkish manufacturers are becoming competitors of international brands and are successfully entering the European market.

Temsa, currently the second biggest industrial company within the Sabanci Group, one of Turkey’s leading industrial and financial conglomerates, has been a key player in the Turkish bus and coach market and this year celebrates its 20 th anniversary of bus and coach manufacturing. Since the introduction of its first passenger bus in 1987, Temsa has introduced several other vehicles that entered not only the Turkish but also the international and in particular the European markets. With only 2 models in 2001 and 11 models in 2007 Temsa has managed to develop relevant products to fulfill the needs of the market in a very short time.

European headquarters in Mechelen ( Belgium) being very successful

Since 2001 – the year that is considered as a milestone – Temsa’s activities in Europe have intensified and in 2003 Temsa Europe was established in Mechelen, Belgium. “Temsa’s growth has been significant. In 2006 already 85% of our export sales have been to Europe, with major markets being France, Germany and Italy”, said Mehmet Buldurgan, President of Temsa and Chairman of Temsa Europe NV at press conference in Kortrijk.

2 nd biggest independent bus & coach manufacturer in Europe

In the past few years, Temsa has successfully established the Temsa brand in the international markets. “With Europe being such a key market for us we are determined to ensure we meet customer demands in our various markets and deliver the best quality and service. Our aim is to be dynamic and to be closer to our customers in order to fulfill the different market or customer specific requirements”, Mr Buldurgan explained.

Temsa buses are currently exported to 40 countries and 75% of Temsa’s production is for international sales. Temsa is currently the second biggest independent bus & coach producer in its own segments. The company aims to increase its market share to 10% by 2010.
The Turkish TEMSA Industrial & Trading Co. produces buses and coaches as well as light commercial vehicles and distributes construction machinery. Temsa coaches are exported to more than 40 countries including many EU members. The company has generated a turnover of 660 million USD for the year 2006. In addition to Temsa Europe NV in Belgium, Temsa GmbH in Germany and Temsa GmbH in Austria, TEMSA currently has seven representation offices around the world and two more opening in 2007. Temsa is part of the Sabanci Group which is one of Turkey’s leading industrial and financial conglomerates. In 2006, the Sabanci Group was good for $12.1 billion consolidated revenues and a consolidated net income of $351 million. Temsa currently employs more than 1600 people and is headquartered in Adana (south of Turkey). Currently Temsa is the only automotive company selected for the TURQUALITY programme that intends to create 10 well known Turkish brands into national champions in the next 10 years.
