Stuttgart/Kortrijk – Při příležitosti mezinárodního autobusového veletrhu „Busworld Kortrijk“ zvolila evropská autobusová porota autokar Mercedes-Benz Travego, který je od počátku roku 2009 na trhu ve své třetí generaci, za „Coach of the Year 2010“. Trofej předal dne 15. října obchodnímu řediteli Mercedes-Benz autobusy Michaelu Göpfarthovi prezident poroty Coach of the Year Stuart Jones. Při akci Coach Euro Test v červnu 2009 v Senlis u Paříže odborná porota ze 17 evropských zemí detailně zkoumala Travego společně se čtyřmi dalšími konkurenty. Každé dva roky se konající Coach Euro Test se řadí k nejvýznamnějším testům zájezdových autobusů v této branži. Mezi kritérii, jako je hospodárnost, vliv na životní prostředí, jízdní vlastnosti a komfort, stála v popředí bezpečnost. Hartmut Schick, ředitel Daimler Buses, uvedl: „Bezpečnost byla a je nejvyšší hodnotou značky Mercedes-Benz. Naše vlajková loď určovala trendy na trhu ve všech svých třech generacích. Tak mělo již v roce 1999 Travego sériově na palubě elektronický brzdový systém (EBS), antiblokovací systém (ABS), protiprokluzový systém (ASR) a retardér. S druhou generací následovaly další bezpečnostní prvky jako asistent jízdního pruhu (SPA) a tempomat s regulací odstupu (ART). Ve třetí generaci slavil světovou premiéru u autobusů aktivní brzdový asistent (ABA) – známý rovněž pod pojmem nouzový brzdový asistent. S každým autobusem typu Safety Coach na silnici se staráme o vyšší bezpečnost silničního provozu a můžeme tak chránit lidské životy.“

Také třetí generace s inovativní technikou určuje trendy na trhu

„V autobusu Safety Coach jsou obsaženy všechny dnes dostupné bezpečnostní prvky. Tak je sériově na palubě vedle bezpečnostního systému aktivní brzdový asistent také pasivní bezpečnostní systém Front Collision Guard. Aktivní brzdový asistent pomáhá vyhnout se nehodám typu najetí do pomalejšího vozidla, anebo přinejmenším snížit následky takových nehod“, říká Holger Suffel, obchodní ředitel společnosti EvoBus GmbH. Aktivní brzdový asistent spustí při akutním nebezpečí nehody typu najetí do pomalejšího vozidla po odstupňovaných varovných signálech brždění plnou silou. V okamžiku kdy autobus po plném brždění zastaví, systém automaticky spustí varovné blinkry. Front Collision Guard se naproti tomu jako efektivní ochrana řidiče a průvodce při čelním nárazu stará o pasivní bezpečnost. Front Collision Guard se skládá z komplexního bezpečnostního systému. Začíná příčným profilem, který při nehodě ve smyslu partnerské ochrany brání podjetí cizím vozidlům. Za tímto profilem se nachází struktura crash prvků, které v případě nárazu cíleně odvádí energii. Kromě toho je místo řidiče Travega včetně řízení, pedálů a sedadla umístěno na masivním rámovém dílu, který se při těžké čelní nehodě kompletně odsune dozadu, a tím zvětší prostor řidiče o důležité centimetry. Aktivní brzdový asistent zažil své uvedení na trh roku 2006 v těžkých nákladních vozidlech Actros. Na silnicích dnes jezdí více než 10 000 vozidel Mercedes-Benz Actros. Aktivní brzdový asistent se v případě objednání tempomatu s regulací odstupu dodává bezplatně. Rovněž některá pojištění v tom případě poskytují slevu z ceny pojistného.

Stuttgart/Kortrijk - The European bus and coach jury at this year's international bus and coach fair, "Busworld Kortrijk", has crowned the Mercedes-Benz Travego, currently available since the beginning of 2009 in its third generation, "Coach of the Year 2010". The trophy was awarded by Stuart Jones, president of the Coach of the Year jury, to Michael Göpfarth, manager of the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach Unit of EvoBus GmbH, on 15 October. The Travego emerged victorious after the jury of experts from 17 European countries put the Travego through its paces against four other European competitors at the Coach Euro Test in June 2009 in Senlis, Paris. The Coach Euro Test takes place every two years and is one of the most important coach tests in the bus and coach sector, scrutinizing such criteria as economic efficiency, environmental acceptability, handling and comfort - and of course not forgetting the top priority, safety. According to Hartmut Schick, head of Daimler Buses, "safety has always been, and still is, the most important brand value for Mercedes-Benz. All three generations of our flagship coach have been market trendsetters in their own right. Even as early as 1999, the Travego already featured an electronic brake system (EBS), anti-lock brake system (ABS), acceleration skid control (ASR) and an auxiliary brake as standard. Further safety features were introduced with the second generation, such as Lane Keeping Assist (SPA) and proximity control system (ART). The third generation of the coach witnessed the world premiere of Active Brake Assist (ABA) – also known as Emergency Brake Assist. With every Safety Coach on the road we are helping to enhance road safety and as a result to save lives".

Third generation coach again sets market trends with innovative technology

"The Safety Coach includes all currently available safety features. Therefore in addition to the Active Brake Assist active safety system, it is also equipped as standard with the Front Collision Guard passive safety system. Active Brake Assist actively helps to avoid rear-end collisions, or at least to reduce the severity of an accident", explains Holger Suffel, head of sales for EvoBus GmbH. In the event of an acute risk of a rear-end collision with a slower-moving vehicle in front, Active Brake Assist issues an escalating series of warnings before initiating emergency braking. If the vehicle comes to a standstill as a result, the hazard warning flashers are activated automatically. Front Collision Guard, on the other hand, provides passive safety by offering effective protection for the driver and co-driver in the event of a frontal impact. The Front Collision Guard is a complex safety system starting with a transverse profile which acts as an underride guard for the protection of other road users. Behind this profile is a structure consisting of crash elements, which absorb energy in a predetermined manner in the event of an impact. In addition, the cockpit of the Travego, including the steering, pedal cluster and seat, is mounted on a solid frame section which is able to move to the rear as a unit during a serious frontal collision, increasing the survival space for the driver by several crucial centimetres.
Active Brake Assist - also described as Emergency Brake Assist - was launched on the market in 2006 in the Mercedes-Benz Actros heavy truck series. Currently more than 10,000 Mercedes-Benz Actros featuring Active Brake Assist are on the roads.
If proximity control is specified for the Travego, Active Brake Assist is included at no extra cost. Some insurance companies also guarantee a discount on insurance premiums when this system is fitted.
