Zpráva zahrnuje osmiměsíční zkušenosti z provozu tří autobusů na vodíkové palivové články. Zaznamenána byla data o provozních nákladech, spotřebě vodíku a dalších kritériích provozu. Autobusy na vodíkové palivové články jsou považovány za prototypovou technologii a jsou v procesu komercionalizace. Došlo k porovnání s daty z provozu tradičních dieselových autobusů.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory has recently published a preliminary report on its evaluation of fuel cell buses in service at AC Transit in Oakland, California.

The report includes 8 months of performance data on three fuel cell buses in service. Details of operating costs, hydrogen production, hydrogen consumption, road calls, key issues and many other key evaluation criteria are provided.

The fuel cell buses are considered prototype technology that is in the process of being commercialised. Data on standard diesel buses are provided for analysis and comparison and to provide a baseline to evaluate the status and progress of the fuel cell bus technology.

The 40-ft Van Hool fuel cell buses feature an electric hybrid drive system by ISE Corporation with UTC Power's PureMotionTM 120 Fuel Cell Power System and ZEBRA batteries for energy storage.

A description of the hydrogen production and refuelling infrastructure is provided. Details of the maintenance facilities are also given.

The report also outlines the overall experience for the transit agency and it's project partners in demonstrating these buses.
